What is Happening on Lake Macquarie
Beautiful Lake Macquarie is located on the East Coat of NSW, Australia. Perfectly situated just 80 km north of Sydney, and 20 km south of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie is easily accessible from the M1 Motorway by car or through the Swansea channel by boat. Lake Macquarie is the largest tidal lake in the southern hemisphere with a surface area of 110 square kilometres, which is twice the size of Sydney harbour. The size of the lake means there are plenty of places to see and things to do. Pulbah island is the largest island on the lake and is a protected nature reserve with rocky cliffs and sand beaches. Lake Macquarie offers excellent fishing with large fish stock since the cessation of commercial fishing a few years ago. Sizable flathead can be found around the many creek mouths, while bream teem at the inner mouth of Swansea channel, and large Tailor can be found trolling deep lures all over the lake. Water skiing and wake boarding are popular past times in summer and the sand islands located just south of the Swansea channel offer crystal clear blue water and white sand beaches perfect for swimming and relaxing. The lake is very popular with sailors and supports several yacht clubs including Belmont 16ft Sailing Club, Lake Macquarie Yacht Club, Mannering Park Amateur Sailing Club, Marmong Pt Sailing Club, Royal Motor Yacht Club of NSW, Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club, South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club, Teralba Amateur Sailing Club, Toronto Amateur Sailing Club, Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club. These clubs provide a very active sailing community with a busy racing season. Lake Macquarie is also home to many power boats including offshore game fishing boats, large house boats and cruisers, and small runabouts and ski boats. What ever type of boat you have, TR Marine is here to keep her looking great, and running smoothly.
