Pelican Foreshore Reserve

Pelican Foreshore Reserve is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with the family. The area boasts a fully-fenced playground and has picnic tables for you and your family to sit and enjoy lunch. There are plenty of public barbecues available for use and, if you don't have a boat to bring you to Pelican Foreshore Reserve, there is plenty of public parking.

Belmont Lagoon Spit Walk

The Belmont Lagoon Spit Walk is the perfect setting for a family hike. The hour-long hike covers almost 3.5 kilometres (return), and has a only a slight elevation of 10 metres. This moderate-difficulty walking track surrounds the outside of Belmont Lagoon so you and your family can enjoy picturesque water views as you hike together. 

Fernleigh Track

The Fernleigh Track is the perfect place to enjoy a lovely bike ride with your family. The trail starts in Belmont and takes you on a 15 kilometre journey through some of Australia's most beautiful wilderness. As you peddle along, your whole family will be treated to views of native Australian flora and fauna. The trail takes you through Glenrock State Conservation Area, Awabakal Nature Reserve and the Belmont Wetlands State Park. The Fernleigh Track offers a fun activity for the entire family and is a fantastic way to see a lot of the natural beauty that makes Lake Macquarie such an attractive place to visit and live.

Dora Creek

If you and your family are looking for even more adventurous ways to enjoy Lake Macquarie and the surround areas, we recommend paddling around Dora Creek. The creek's flat waters are the perfect place for youngsters to learn to paddle their kayak or canoe. If you're travelling with really young children, Dora Creek is flat enough to pack toddlers into the centre of a canoe and head out for a canoe adventure.
